The adventures of an intrepid American sports fan living in England as he comes to grips with 'the beautiful game' and follows the world's greatest non-league club: Bath City FC.
Note to British people: because there will be Americans reading this a lot of the entries will be trying to educate them about your national sport. Please forgive the use of the word 'soccer' or references to American sporting terms. Also, don't get annoyed if you get teased a bit.
Nedved's Notes would like to thank 'Yuffie,' the Bath City superfan, for providing most of the photographs used in this blog.
Nedved is not my real name, but a nickname I've had almost since the day I arrived in the UK. It comes from Pavel Nedved, the Czech international, and Juventus striker. Basically, my real life name sounds a lot like 'Nedved.'
The Pig comes from the ancient story of the founding of the City of Bath. A pre-Norman king named Bladud was exiled from his kingdom for having a foul skin disease. He took up a job as a swineherd and one day found his pigs wallowing in a muddy bath. When he got into the same muddy waters he found his skin disease cured. Ever since then Bath has been an international centre for having a nice wash and feeling better. Since Bath City are without an American-style mascot to merchandise I have been leading a campaign for the club to adopt the pig. Hence the football-playing pig logo.
